USS The Sullivans is named for the five Sullivan brothers from Waterloo, Iowa, who lost their lives while serving together aboard the USS Juneau CL52 in November of 1942. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 and is retired in their honor at the Buffalo Naval Park.
