Join us as we commemorate the 20th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day that has changed our country forever. The Buffalo Naval & Military Park will be open with “pay what you wish” admission.
September 11, 2021 Schedule of Events
8:30 AM – 10:30 AM: 9/11 Flag of Honor Across America Memorial Ceremony
To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, the Naval Park will host an outdoor Flag of Honor Across America Memorial Ceremony in partnership with Erie County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the WNY Iraq/Afghanistan Memorial, and Explore and More – The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Children’s Museum.
It will begin at 8:00 AM with music by the Buffalo Niagara Concert Band. The ceremony will start at 8:30 AM with the national anthem sung by Buffalo’s Singing Cops, Officers Moe Badger and Michael Norwood Jr., with additional music provided by the Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes and Drums. Color Guards from the Buffalo Fire Department, Buffalo Police Department, United States Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, and United States Naval Sea Cadet Corp, Sullivans Division, will raise the 9/11 Flag of Honor. The Edward M. Cotter fireboat will provide a tribute marking the event.
As one of 60 sites across the country participating in this ceremony, community members will have the honor of reading the names and a short biography of 50 individuals who died on September 11, 2001, as well as those with a connection to Western New York. 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Honk for Heroes
In partnership with Explore & More Children’s Museum, we are proud to present Honk for Heroes, a free outdoor showcase of military and first responder vehicles, from 11 AM – 3 PM. Family activities will be provided at the Naval Park and Explore & More. Come show your appreciation for our brave military personnel and emergency responders who keep our country and community safe!

9/11 Day of Service
In observance of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we invite you to help us transform the anniversary of 9/11 into a day of service to help those most in need.
8:30 AM – 4:00 PM: Food Drive for FeedMore of WNY
Food donations are an effective way to help those who are hungry throughout Western New York. Bring a food item to the Buffalo Naval & Military Park to support our WNY neighbors in need.
11:30 AM – 3:30 PM: American Red Cross Blood Drive
Following the ceremony, The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive at the Naval Park from 11:30 AM- 3:30 PM. The need for blood is constant and your contribution is important for a healthy and reliable blood supply. All blood donors will receive two free passes to visit the Buffalo Naval & Military Park and other special prizes. Appointments are available in advance; a limited number of walk-ins will be accommodated.
