USS The Sullivans is comprised of 720 individual scan locations throughout the ship. Each scan point generates 6-9 images, totaling at least 4,320 images contained in the tour. The vertical rise of the ship from stern to bow posed a significant challenge to the camera itself, which is “programmed” to work within a level, multi-floor environment like residences and buildings. To counter this, multiple files were generated and “stitched” together. This allowed for a complete model to be created, but it does limit a true flow from area to area.
USS Little Rock is comprised of over 1,050 individual scan locations throughout the ship. Each scan point generates 6-9 images, totaling at least 6,300 images contained in the tour. These images are are layered over the 3-D model data that is generated at the same time by the infrared lasers in the camera.
USS Croaker is comprised of 175 individual scan locations, generating at least 1,050 images contained in the tour. The symmetrical aspects of the fore and aft stairwell entrances proved challenging, as it “tricked” the camera into thinking that specific area had already been scanned before.
