DESCRIPTION:Join the Buffalo Naval & Military Park’s Curator and Director of Museum Collections\, Shane Stephenson\, for a special behind the scenes tour of USS Little Rock. \nThis tour will give an in-depth look at our collections and highlight some of the challenges in preserving these important artifacts for future generations. Visit spaces on board the USS Little Rock that are not available on any of our other tours. \nEach tour will last approximately 2 hours and will be limited to 11 people. When touring most areas of the ship\, visitors should expect to traverse narrow passageways\, be able to step over significantly raised thresholds\, and climb up and down very steep ladders. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes\, closed-toe shoes\, and bring a flashlight. DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Rotary Club of Buffalo and the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park\, join us for a special screening of Dunkirk. The event will take place aboard the Fantail of USS Little Rock on Saturday\, July 1. Doors open at 7:00 PM\, and the movie will begin immediately following a pre-film presentation at 7:30 PM. \nThis event will be free to attend but a ticket is REQUIRED as space is very limited. \nMovie-style concessions will be available for purchase. \nAbout Dunkirk:\nIn May 1940\, Germany advanced into France\, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces\, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. DESCRIPTION:Old Fort Niagara will be joining us at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park for a special family day to learn about A Soldier’s Life\, featuring a visit by a member of the fort staff\, dressed in the military uniform of one of the fort’s historic garrisons. Using the uniform itself\, as well as other items representative of a soldier’s personal equipment and belongings (knapsack\, haversack\, clothing\, blankets\, games\, utensils\, grooming supplies\, etc.)\, the trials and joys of everyday life will be brought to life. \nJoin us in the Hangar Building on Sunday\, July 9 from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Families will be able to see and touch reproductions of historic clothing and equipment\, making a direct connection with history. It is free and open to the public.
